Final Fantasy IX Now Available on Steam

One of your favorite games of the 00’s decade has come back in a new way. You can finally play the game Final Fantasy IX on Steam! The game hit Steam on April 14, and has already recieved over 1,150 reviews, trending Very Positive. Final Fantasy IX first launched in 2000, selling over 5 million copies upon its original release and the Steam return has been anxiously awaited.

The new version of Final Fantasy IX has been updated with Steam achievements, 7 game boosters including high speed and no encounter modes, autosave, and high-def movies and character models. 85 Steam achievements are possible, which should keep you busy for at least a few hours, even if you’ve played the game completely through to the end before.

For those who haven’t played this installment or have never played Final Fantasy games before, here’s the summary of IX.

Zidane and the Tantalus Theater Troupe have kidnapped Princess Garnet, the heir of Alexandria. To their surprise, however, the princess herself yearned to escape the castle.

Through a series of unusual circumstances, she and her personal guard, Steiner, fall in with Zidane and set out on an incredible journey. Meeting unforgettable characters like Vivi and Quina along the way, they learn about themselves, the secrets of the Crystal, and a malevolent force that threatens to destroy their world.

Gameplay Features

Learn new abilities by equipping items. When fully mastered, these abilities can be used even without equipping items, allowing for nearly endless customization options.

Fill your Trance gauge as you sustain hits in battle. When fully charged, your characters will enter Trance mode, granting them powerful new skills!

Never let items go to waste. Combine two items or pieces of equipment together and make better, stronger items!

Whether it’s Chocobo Hot and Cold, Jump Rope, or Tetra Master, there are plenty of minigames to enjoy when you’re not off saving the world. You can even earn special item rewards!

The game is currently playable on Windows systems now. Steam recommends that players use Windows Vista/7/8.1/10, and have at least 20 GB of RAM storage available.

Ports for the Final Fantasy IX Android and iOS editions were released in February 2016. Now hardcore Final Fantasy fans can jump into one of their favorite classic games in a whole new way. Even if you’re new to the franchise (where have you been?), you will enjoy playing Final Fantasy IX. The game is currently on sale for $20.99. If the images shared here are any indication, the age of the game hasn’t made it any less beautiful or detailed either.  And of course, if you want to keep on playing Final Fantasy, volumes VI, IV, VII, and VIII are also available. No Season Pass or bundle savings is available yet, but we’ll keep you updated.
