Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan Trailer is Here!

Activision has released its in game trailer of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan! The announcement was met with much excitement, since people of all ages have their own childhood experiences of TMNT to make them nostalgic. That’s because TMNT manages to release movies, TV shows and games uniquely for each generation.

Many people have fond memories of the TMNT Danger of the Ooze. Now Nickelodeon has reinvented TMNT for pretty decent TV series and upcoming movie. The continued interest has also given rise to a new video game developed by Platinum Games and featuring the Turtles you all know and love. Platinum Games is the studio behind Transformers: Devastation, which was given high marks for being an authentic version of the classic TV show.

Activision describes the game as “A gritty, comic-inspired Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is a visually stunning, fast-paced combat true to PlatinumGames’ signature style.”

Platinum is going for a similar vibe with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, which was officially announced as a title back in January 2016. The game now has a confirmed release date, May 14, 2016, and a brand new trailer showing footage of the big time battles you’ll be fighting in. The game will be available on both current and last generation systems. It is timed to release a few weeks earlier than the next Turtles movie, Out Of The Shadows. The two are not directly linked however, in that the game will have its own story and world. The titles will inevitably have fans comparing the two to each other.

Here is your first look at the trailer:

As you can see, the trailer has all the fast action you are accustomed to from the old TMNT cartoons. The turtles are contending with several different villains, including Bebop, Rocksteady, Karai, and Super Shredder. The colors, sounds and action definitely harken to an earlier era, but the speed and gameplay certainly look like they belong in modern gaming

Mutants In Manhattan will have four player co-op, with each player able to control either Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, or Leonardo. Unfortunately, this trailer doesn’t show the mechanics of the gameplay. There is also just a brief taste of the voiceover work in the current trailer, meaning fans will have to wait until a second trailer to get a feel for the total experience.

In terms of strategy, TMNT may be taking the same route as Transformers Devastation, which took its cues from the old TV series not from the blockbuster movies. The irony is that while the movies were global hits, hardcore Transformers fans did not much care for the movies and clearly preferred the video games. It looks like Platinum Games has taken the same strategy, by linking its video to the old TV cartoons, which at a minimum has the advantage of nostalgia on its side. The game does not resemble the most recent Nickelodeon show, however, which means that Platinum returned to the originals to make the game.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan will be released on May 24 on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
