Disney Magic Kingdoms To Let You Build Your Own Theme Park

Disney fans, your time has come! Well, almost. Disney and Gameloft have announced a new mobile game for Android and iOS coming soon, and registration is already open. The game is called Disney Magic Kingdoms, and lets you build your very own Disneyified theme park. It’s a city-builder that will integrate the mechanics of most games of the genre but with a Disney touch.

Disney Magic Kingdoms was first previewed at Disney’s bi-annual official gathering of fans, D23 Expo in 2015, but until now we haven’t seen any sneak peeks outside of the D23 Expo. The official press release for Disney Magic Kingdoms shared the following info last August:

Disney Magic Kingdoms will allow players to build the theme park of their dreams by recreating and placing iconic attractions in a fun animated landscape. With influence from the Disneyland Resort in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disneyland Paris and more, the game reimagines Disney Parks for mobile, letting fans experience an authentic and magical experience anytime, anywhere. Gameloft and Disney Interactive worked with Walt Disney Imagineering to bring Disney attractions such as Space Mountain, “it’s a small world”, California Screamin’ and many more to life in the game.

Gameloft also created another popular mobile game featuring a beloved franchise, Hasbro’s My Little Pony, so this is bound to be another hit for them. You can pre-register for Disney Magic Kingdoms now, and unlock exclusive rewards for being one of the first to do so. Much the My Little Pony game, players will be able to interact with their favorite Disney characters, with the developers promising favorites like Buzz Lightyear, Mickey Mouse, Cinderella and more. It’s pretty much a given that the characters from the Disney mega-hit Frozen will be along for the ride as well. Disney recently had a box office hit with the new release of Zootopia, and the movies’ main characters are soon appearing at the parks, so look for those characters to make their way to the game, is my guess.

The intriguing thing behind Disney Magic Kingdoms, besides the ability to waste time with a mobile game that is, is the fact that the gameplay promises a storyline:

Players will also face numerous quests that will unravel an exciting tale of adventure to save the park from villains including Sleeping Beauty‘s Maleficent, Toy Story‘s Emperor Zurg and Tangled‘s Mother Gothel.

You can pre-register at the official landing page for the game  and earn points to unlock rewards. Currently 15 points are available for registering through Facebook, and 25 points are for sharing the site through the social network as well. The game website has a “community meter” set for a goal, and when the goal is reached, the rewards will be unlocked. These include magic, a Mickey Ears topiary, gems, and a Diamond Annviersary Hat Stand.

Want more information and visuals? Gameloft shared the official teaser below. You’ll see some of the characters, a few familar Disney attractions (Monsters Inc Laugh Floor, the California Adventure ferris wheel, and of course, a Disney castle.

It’s worth noting that Disney did have a MMPORG known as Virtual Magic Kingdom, and it was launched to great success in 2005 but closed in 2008. Perhaps Disney Magic Kingdoms will fill the hole left behind.

Look for the Disney Magic Kingdoms mobile game on Windows, iOS and Android platforms.
